On February 6, 1840, William Hughes acknowledged receipt of $338 from William Smith Junior “in full payment for a Negro Boy named Prince aged about five or six years old which Boy I warrant to be sound and healthy…” Witnessed by James M. Smith. Recorded on March 12, 1840, by E. Way, Clerk.
