On March 9, 1839, John Way used as collateral on a promissory note of $250 to E.H. Bacon “my negro woman Slave Jenny…” Witnessed by G.D. Beckwith, C.W. Stevens. On April 9, 1839, E.H. Bacon transferred his right to this mortgage to H.M. Stevens “for value received.” Witnessed by A.J. Bacon. Albert J. Bacon probated this deed on April 9, 1839, before S. Spencer, J.I.C.L.C. Recorded on April 10, 1839, by E. Way, Clerk.
