Enslaved Persons Named: Pompey

On February 25, 1847, William E. Screven [alt: Scriven], Liberty County, sold to John Jones, Liberty County, for $500 “the following property to wit a negro fellow named Pompey, between thirty and forty years of age, which negro fellow Pompey, I warrant to be sound and well in body and mind and to be a slave for life.” Witnessed by Joseph Jackson, G.W. Dunham, J.I.C. Recorded on May 8, 1847, by J.S. Bradwell, Clk.
