Enslaved Persons Named: Sally, Edward
On December 1, 1842, Thomas Quarterman, Liberty County, sold for $1000 to Robert Y. Quarterman “the following named property to wit one woman named Sally valued at five hundred dollars, and one negro man named Edward valued at five hundred dollars…” in trust for Thomas Quarterman’s daughter Mary Susannah Hickman “it being the wish of the said Thomas Quarterman to protect his daughter Mary Susannah Hickman as far as human prudence can do so from those unforeseen calamities to which all men are liable…” He added that Susannah could apply to the Superior Court of the county where she might reside at the time should her brother Robert Y. Quarterman predecease her. Witnessed by T.W. Quarterman, J.P. J.S. Bradwell, Clerk Sup. Ct. Robert Y. Quarterman signed that he accepted the trust. Recorded on January 6, 1845, by J.S. Bradwell, Clerk.
