Enslaved Persons Named: Hannah

On July 2, 1844, Joseph S. Baker, guardian of William B. Bennet minor of Liberty County and legal heir of Mathew Bennett [as spelled] of Liberty County deceased, finalized the sale of “a certain negro woman slave named Hannah twenty four years of age, the property of said William B. Bennet minor” a public auction after giving 60 days notice as required by law and advertising the sale in the Savannah “publick gazette” and in Liberty County. She was put up for public auction in front of the Hinesville Court House on the first Tuesday in July 1844 between the hours of 2 and 3 pm. Joseph Quarterman made the highest bid, $400. Recorded on January 19, 1845, by J.S. Bradwell, Clerk [of Liberty County Superior Court].
