“State of Georgia, Liberty County } Know all men by these presents, that we, Charlton Hines and Wm. J. Way, are bound and obliged unto Josiah Wilson and Daniel M. Stewart in the penal sum of one thousand dollars, to be paid to the said Josiah WIlson and Daniel Stewart for the which payment, well and truly to be made and done, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals, and dated this fifth day of January eighteen hundred and thirty /1830/.
“The condition of the above obligation is such, that if the above bounden Charlton Hines & Wm. J. Way do well and truly abide by and stand to a decision or award to be made up by & between Joseph Jones, George W. Walthour, Wm. N. Way and Raymond Harris (the two first named persons chosen by Joseiah Wilson, and the two latter by the said Charlton Hines and Wm. J. Way) to arbitrate and settle certain matters and things in dispute between the said Charlton Hines and Wm. J. Way, and said Josiah WIlson and Damiel M. Stewart, in relation to the wills and estates of the late Genl Daniel Stewart deceased, and his wife Mrs. Sarah Stewart; allowing the said arbitrators, should they differ, to choose a fifth person or umpire, to stand to and abide by the decision or award of said umpire, then this obligation to be void, or else to be and remain in full force and virtue. In presence of Gideon B. Dean, Wm. Daughtry. [Signed by] Charlton Hines, Wm. J. Way.
“Georgia, Liberty County } We, the undersigned arbitrators, being duly sworn and qualified to settle all matters & things in dispute between the parties named in the annexed bond, do unanimously agree, that the crop of eighteen hundred and twenty nine (1829) made on the plantation of Genl. D. Stewart deceased, shall be rateably divided between the Est. of Genl. D. Stewart and the Est. of Mrs. Sarah Stewart. All current expenses of the year to be proportionably paid by the two estates; viz. overseer’s wages and plantation expenses (not including Doctors’ bills). And we do consider the bequest of gift of Mrs. Stewart of certain furniture, named in her will, to be legal, and authorized by Genl. D. Stewart’s will. And we do agree and recommend the said crop of 1829 to be divided on the plantation, including what has been waggoned to Riceborough. This to be considered our final award between the parties at variance. [Signed by] Jos. Jones, Geo. W. Walthour, Wm. N. Way, Raymond Harris. Recorded 15 March 1830 [by] E. Baker Clk.”

These antebellum estate inventories and appraisals generally included all the deceased person’s “property,” including enslaved persons. Only those names are documented here for historical and genealogical purposes. Anyone interested in the actual property owned by the deceased may find it at the link at the bottom of the page. Names are listed in the original order, as this often gives very valuable information about family groupings or the age of children (who may be listed in age order).
