On February 1, 1844, John S. Andrews, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $1392 to Robert Hutchison of Savannah, Chatham County, “all these five following named negro slaves to wit, Rachael, Matilda, Gabriel, Hetty, Cora…” Witnessed by Wm. Law, Levi Sheftall, Not. Public. [NOTE: Written on this deed was “Cancelled by being paid in full. Savannah, 15 March 1848. R. Hutchinson. Recorded 1 Nov 1848. J.S. Bradwell, Clerk.”] On the next page, Robert Hutchison, Savannah, Chatham County, warranted that he had sold to John S. Andrews, Liberty County, for $1625 on 1 February 1844 “to me in hand paid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents” “the five following named negro slaves to wit, Rachael, Matilda, Gabriel, Hetty, Cora…” Witnessed by Wm. Law, Levi Sheftall, Not. Pub. Recorded on March 30, 1844, by J.S. Bradwell, [Liberty County Superior Court] Clerk.
