On September 16, 1843, Wm. [William] N. Way used as collateral on two promissory notes for $550 to Wm. G. Martin, both of Liberty County, “two negro slaves (to wit) July & Cretia.” Witnessed by S. Spencer, Joseph Way. Recorded on October 8, 1843, by E. Way, Clerk.
