On May 10, 1843, Lauretta Martin executed a deed of gift to her daughter Mary J. Martin, of “a certain Negro Girl named Matilda for her own use & profit and benefit & behoof forever.” Witnessed by Richard F. Baker, J.S. Bradwell. Probated by Jas. S. Bradwell on July 3, 1843. Recorded on July 3, 1843, by E. Way, Clerk.
