On December 17, 1842, Eli Bradley used as collateral on a promissory note of $76 to Newman Bradley, both of Liberty County, “one negro man by name Toney, aged from fifty to sixty years.” Witnessed by E. Daniel, L.B. Daniel. Recorded on January 25, 1843, by E. Way, Clerk. On February 8, 1845, N. Bradley signed a document relinquishing his right to this mortgage deed to John S. Bradley in exchange for $88.16. That document was witnessed by E. Daniel, J.K. Bird, J.I.C., and recorded on February 24, 1845, by J.S. Bradwell, Clerk.
