Marriage Contract (Anderson/Jones)

On January 18, 1843, Marion S. Anderson, of Walthourville, entered into a marriage contract with Charles B. Jones, with Joseph A. Anderson and James Jones as her trustees. As part of the contract, she was said to be possessed “of the following real & personal estate, to wit: all that plantation tract or parcel of land situate between & bounded by lands belonging to D. Miller Estate of Bacon Est of Anderson & James McCollough containing in all four hundred & eight one acres more or less in the County of Liberty and the following Negro Slaves to wit: Farmer Daniel Harriet Dianna Rose Russel Jack Edwin Stephen June Celia Old Celia & Rebbecca [alt: Rebecca] thirteen in number.” This property and any other property she might become possessed of was transferred to Joseph A. Anderson and James Jones as her trustees for the use and benefit of her and Charles B. Jones (after the marriage) but not subject to any of his debts. Witnessed by Jos. Jones, Henry H. Jones.
