On March 1, 1853, Benjamin S. Screven used as collateral on a promissory note to the executors of John Lambert’s estate (Thomas Mallard, Ezra Stacy, William Q. Baker, William Jones and John B. Mallard) “the following property to wit one negro man Slave named Stephen about thirty years old and one negro man Slave named Smart about thirty four years old…” Witnessed by Thos. ? Mallard, T. W. Quarterman, J.P. Recorded on June 10, 1853. [NOTE: Written on the deed was “Satisfied this 27th June 1854. Wm. Q. Baker Acting Exor. Entered this 27th June 1854. S.A. Fraser, Clerk.”]
