Enslaved Persons Named: Judy

On June 13, 1853, P.F.D. (or R.F.D.) Scarborough, administrator of the estate of William M. Fraser, sold to Simon A. Fraser for $400 “Judy a negro woman as the property of said William M. Fraser.” Scarborough had received permission from the Court of Ordinary of Pulaski County, and then “exposed said negro Girl Judy to public sale.” Fraser was the highest bidder. Judy was described as being about forty or forty five years old. This deed was originally executed and witnessed in Appling County by C.B. Cole, Peter E. Love, Judge. Recorded on June 17, 1853, in Liberty County by [Superior Court] Clerk S.A. Fraser.
