Estate Settlement (Joseph Jones)

Enslaved Persons Named: Sally, Sue, Jack, Aron [alt: Aaron], Clarissa

On July 11, 1853, A.M. Jones acknowledged receipt of property from E.S.L. Jones, executrix of the estate of Joseph Jones, incudling “five Slaves Sally Sue Jack Aron and Clarissa,” and 1940 acres of land “lying in Bulltown swamp partly in this and McIntosh County as per resurvey & Plat made by Wm. Hughes county surveyor October 5, 1848” and $612.75 in cash. He stated that this was “all of the property willed to me by the late Andrew Maybank deceased, together with the avails of said negroes since the year eighteen hundred and forty seven, at which time they fell into the hands of the said E.S.L. Jones executrix of Joseph Jones.” He acknowledged it as a receipt in full of all his claims on Joseph Jones’ estate. Witnessed by T.W. Quarterman, J.P. Recorded on July 11, 1853, by S.A. Fraser, [Liberty County Superior Court] Clerk.
