On February 5, 1853, Jas. [or Jos.] M. Smith and Wm. [William] Patterson, executors & trustees of the estate of John D. Mongin, sold for $4798 to William B. Gaulden “the following negro slaves viz. Bess, Allen, Phillis, June, Barrick [alt: Barack], Phebe [alt: Phoebe], Doctor, Maria, Scipio, Nanny, Peggy, Caty, Dick and Flora…” Witnessed in Chatham County by M.J. Moody, Robert Rayford, J.P. Recorded in Liberty County on October 10, 1853, by [Liberty County] Superior Court Clerk S.A. Fraser.
