On January 15, 1853, Abial Winn used as collateral on a promissory note of $1500 to Richard J. Arnold and Joseph L. McAllister, “trustees of the meeting house on Bryan Neck,” “the following named negro Slaves to wit, York, Rachel, Peter, Toby, Brister, Daphny, William, John, May Affee, Eliza, Phillis, Margaret, Little Prince, David, Pollidore [alt: Polydore], Cretia, Henry, Charlotte, Tony, Tena, Harriett, little Charlotte, Charley [alt: Charlie or Charly], Patsey, Peggy, Prince, Isaac, Harry Nelly, Augustus…” in addition to the Steadfield Plantation, containing 925 acres, bounded on the north by the public road leading from Sunbury to Riceboro, east by the lands of Raymond Cay and George W. Dunham, south by the Riceboro River and west by lands owned by Maj. Anthony Porter and Peacock Creek, as well as another plantation called Social Hall Plantation, with 200 acres, bounded on the north by the lands of Thomas W. Fleming, and the lands of the estate of Thomas Baker, east by lands of Thomas W. Fleming, on the south by the public road leadig from Sunbury to Riceboro, and west by lands of Anthony Porter. The note was said to be made payable to the order of Anderson & Co and endorsed by them to John E. Ward, who had endored it to Arnold and McAllister. Witnessed by F.H. Blois, Edward J. Wilson, J.P. & Notary Public. Recorded on March 3, 1853, by S.A. Fraser, C.S.C.L.C.
