Maxwell her daughter to make an equal division of the negroes jointly inherited by them from the estates of Mr. Audley Maxwell and Dr. Charles Edward Maxwell and care being taken to preserve families unbroken as far as practicable and [one word] being also heed to their real values; we have divided the said negroes into the two lots which we believe to be as perfect and as equitable a division as we are capable of making.”
