Enslaved Persons Named: Paul, Lizzie, Hagar, Peggy, Jim, Henry, Ceasar [alt: Caesar], Cyrus, Tena

On January 1, 1853, Sarah Jane Way, as guardian for Jane Augusta Way and Mary E. Caroline Way and administrator of the estate of Nathaniel J. Way, their previous guardian, sold to Edward F. Way for $1775 “the undivided moiety of one half of the aforenamed negro Slaves viz. Paul Lizzie Hagar Peggy, Jim, Henry, Ceasar [alt: Caesar], Cyrus and Tena…” The deed noted that the December 1852 term of the Liberty County Superior Court had ordered that, as the $1725 had paid by Edward F. Way to “the late Nathaniel J. Way as guardian of his minor children Jane Augusta Way & Mary E. Caroline Way for the undivided moiety of one half of the following Slaves viz. Paul Lizzie, Hagar, Peggy, Jim, Henry Ceasar, Cyrus & Tena (the sale of which said Slaves had been authorized by a previous decree of the same Court at a former term)” Sarah Jane Way should give title to the same to Edward F. Way. Witnessed by Joseph Way, C. Hines. Probated by C. Hines on January 15, 1853. Recorded on January 15, 1853.
