On March 15, 1851, Gideon B. Dean, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $2000 to M.L. Jones, agent for Rev. Rich’d [Richard] Q. Way, “the following named negro slaves with the issue of the females to wit Jacob Phillis, Madison, Bella, Phillip [one name illegible] O Peggy and Oliver…” Witnessed by John E. Fraser, J.S. Bradwell, C.S.C.L.C. Recorded on March 18, 1851. [NOTE: Written on the deed was: “Received payment in full this 24th March 1858. Edward Quarterman agent R.Q. Way. Entered this 26th July 1858. S.A. Fraser, Clerk.”]
