Marriage Contract (Anderson/Dunham)

Enslaved People Named: Joe, Ned, Agrippa, Pompey, Jim, Sam, Taymor, Patience, Mary, Ben, Prime, Matilda

On December 19, 1850, Sarah Anderson of Walthourville entered into a marriage contract with Dr. Thomas K. Dunham, Camden County. Because Sarah Anderson was bringing into the marriage “the following negro Slaves to wit Joe, Ned Agrippa Pompey Jim Sam (carpenter) Taymor, Patience, Mary Ben Prime and Matilda twelve in number,” in addition to “sundry other tracts of pine land in Liberty County” and “an undivided portion of the plantation known as the Estate of William Anderson lying in said County and State,” her property was turned over to her trustees Joseph A. Anderson and Charles B. Jones, of Liberty County. Witnessed by G. Troup Maxwell, A.M. Jones. Recorded on February 10, 1851.
