Enslaved Persons Named: Jimmy [or Jimeny], Joe, Sam
On May 16, 1850, H.W. Bacon and his wife Julia Bacon, plus her trustee Edward Bacon, all of Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $374.50 to Charlton Hines, executor of Mrs. Susannah Sanford’s [also spelled Sandford] will, “Jimmy [or Jimeny] a negro man about 60 years Joe a boy about five [or twenty five] years of age and Sam a boy about sixteen years of age.” Witnessed by Jacob Thiess, S.A. Fraser, J.I.C.L.C. [NOTE: In the promissory note, Julia Bacon’s name was listed as Julia A.S. Bacon.] Recorded on June 19, 1850, by J.S. Bradwell. [NOTE: Written on this deed was “Satisfied in full. W.S. Norman, [??] atty. Entered this 4th Jany 1858, S.A. Fraser, Clerk.]
