On May 14, 1849, Joseph A. Anderson, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $250 to Sarah C. Ward, New Haven, Connecticut, “the following negroe slaves, viz. Lucy & July.” Witnessed by James B. Mell, Ch. [Charles] Berrien Jones, T.W. Quarterman, J.P. Recorded on August 1, 1849, by John E. Fraser, D.C.L.C.
