[NOTE: This was originally posted with the name Samuel Haizlings. Another copy in different handwriting was found in loose papers in the FamilySearch collection “Estate 1775-1892, Harris, Isaac-Hornby, Phillip, which made it clear that the surname was Haistings (also spelled Hastings). That copy spelled the names of the enslaved people as follows: Haberham, Mreah, Rachal, Rinah, Old Rachal, Binah, Boy Jack, Toney, G????, Ruthy. It also listed as possessions one horse ($80), one gun ($20), pistols & holsters ($12), a sulky (20), 3 trunks with books (25), a portable desk (6), a valise (2) and 2 saddoes (15). The administrators were named as Charles Thorp and Leonard Jurdine. The inventory was noted as performed on the same day as the above. In both copies, the name that starts with a G looks like Gehue or possibly Gehu with a flourish at the end.]

These antebellum estate inventories and appraisals generally included all the deceased person’s “property,” including enslaved persons. Only those names are documented here for historical and genealogical purposes. Anyone interested in the actual property owned by the deceased may find it at the link at the bottom of the page. Names are listed in the original order, as this often gives very valuable information about family groupings or the age of children (who may be listed in age order).
