On January 22, 1859, J.E.H. Bacon, Chatham County, gave to his son Oliver T. Bacon “the negro slave France a boy aged about twelve years and valued by me at three hundred dollars.” “This being an advance to said O.T. Bacon and to be deducted at the said valuation (three hundred dollars) from the share of said O.T. Bacon in any Estate I may leave at my death.” Witnessed by S. Yates Levy, Notary Public. Recorded on April 23, 1859, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk. [NOTE: Because this was recorded in Liberty County, it is presumed that Oliver T. Bacon lived there.]
