Enslaved Persons Named: Tom
On April 18, 1859, Robert T. Quarterman, Liberty County, sold to Thomas W. Fleming, Liberty County, “the following property to wit; a certain negro boy named Tom about twelve years of age hired by said Robert T. Quarterman from Rev’d J.W. Quarterman which negro boy I warrant to be sond and well in body and mind, and to be a Slave for life.” Witnessed by Irwin Rahn, John Girardeau, Not. Pub. Recorded on April 25, 1859, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk. [NOTE: According to a deed on the previous page, Thomas W. Fleming was administrator of Rev. John W. Quarterman’s estate.]
