On February 23, 1857, John Stevens, Liberty County, planter, used as collateral on a promissory note of $500 to James Summersall, Liberty County, merchant, “the following property viz. One tract of land containing one hundred and nineteen acres bounded as follows on the north by lands of Messrs Thos. and William King on the east by lands of Jones Rowe south by Jones Rowe and B.A. Busby and east by John Jones lands with all the buildings and improvements upon it also another tract of land known as the old school house field containing eighty one acres bounded as follows viz. North by William E. Screven east by ferry road, south and east by William C. Stevens lands, also the following Slaves viz. Eve and Peggy with their issue if any.” Witnessed by John Summersall, Jos. A. Anderson, G.W. Perviss. Probated by John Summersall. Recorded on December 25, 1858, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk.
