On June 1, 1857, Wm [William] J. Coleman used as collateral on a promissory note of $190.40 to Dr. M.D. Mooney “the following property to wit a certain negro fellow named Sam twenty years old one mule one buggy twenty one head of stock cattle.” Witnessed by S.M. Varnedoe, and W.P. Girardeau Not. Pub. Recorded on June 9, 1857. [Written on the deed was “Satisfied in full this 6th Jany 1858. S.A. Fraser, Clerk.”]
