On April 19, 1856, William E. Screven, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $985.75 to Messrs. Claghorn and Cunningham of the City of Savannah, Chatham County, “the following property to wit a negro fellow named Abram of black complexion & about twenty five years old. Also a negro fellow named Scipio of black complexion & about thirty two years old. Also a negro fellow named Jim of black complexion & about thirty years of age.” Witnessed by John Summersell, Joseph L. Harris. Probated by John Summersall before W.P. Girardeau, Notary Public, on July 18, 1856, and recorded on July 18, 1856, by S.A. Fraser, C.S.C.L.C. [Note: Marked on the deed was “Georgia, Chatham County } This mortgage is hereby satisfied cancelled and annulled this 25 September 1858. Claghorn & Cunningham. Witness Joseph Felt, J.P. Chatham Co. Entered this 27th September 1858. S.A. Fraser, C.S.C.L.C.”]
