On June 2, 1856, William E. Screven, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $2704.02 to William H. Burroughs, Savannah, Chatham County, “the following named negro slaves to wit, Nancy about thirty two years of age William about fifteen years of age, Delia, about thirteen years of age, Samuel about eleven years of age, Owen about seen years of age, and Sarah about five years of age, with the future issue and increase of the female slaves.” Witnessed by E.S. Law, John Sommersall. Probated by E.S. Law on June 3, 1856. Recorded on June 3, 1856, by S.A. Fraser, C.S.C.L.C.
