Enslaved Persons Named: Isaac, Sambo

On April 25, 1854, Edward Quarterman, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $1050 to J.R. Bacon “the following [one word] negro slaves to wit Isaac & Sambo.” Witnessed by Henry Way, L.L. Varnadoe, and Sam’l. M. Varnadoe, J.I.C.L.C. [Varnadoe also spelled Varnedoe]. Under the note was recorded that on November 1, 1854, $750 was received, and on  March 28, 1855, $12.49 was received. All recorded on April 26, 1856, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk. [NOTE: Written over the deed was “Satisfied in full this 5th day of April 1860. [Signed] Thos. W. Fleming Exor. Entered this 21st April 1860. Jesse Brewer, Clerk.]
