Enslaved People Named: Edmund, John, Elsey, James, Daniel, Hurculus [Hercules?], and Harietta [Henrietta?]

John Stevens, Liberty County, administrator of the estate of Joseph L. Stevens and guardian of Joseph Gaulden and Mary Jane Stevens, Joseph Stevens’ minor children, sold to these children for $3224 “the following negro slaves viz. Edmund, John, Elsey, James, Daniel, Hurculus [Hercules?] and Harietta owned by the late Jos. L. Stevens decd and sold to pay a debt of the above amount.” Witnessed on April 1, 1863, by W.B. Fleming, James J. McConnell, Notary Public. Recorded on October 1?, 1863, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk.
