Enslaved Persons Named: Luke

“Georgia, Chatham County } For and in consideration of the sum of five hundred dolls to me in hand paid by Wm. B. Gaulden I have this day granted bargained and sold unto the said Gaulden his heirs and assigns a certain negro boy named Luke aged about five years. To have and to hold said slave unto him the said Gaulden his heirs and assigns forever signed sealed & delivered this 10th day of June 1857.” [Signed by] W.H. Shuman. Witnessed by W.A. Burgess, John C. Gu????  Notary Public, Richmond County, Ga. Recorded on March 20, 1863, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk.
