Enslaved People Named: Corene or Corinne, alias Lindy

On October 7, 1863, Peter W. Fleming sold to John E. Baker for $350 “one negro Slave named Corene alias Lindy about eight years old To have and to hold said Corinne alias Lindy with the future issue and increase in trust for the sole and separate use and benefit of my wife Caroline A. Fleming…” [Transcriber’s Note: The name appears clearly to be spelled Corene the first time and Corinne the second time.] He noted that John E. Baker was his wife’s trustee. Witnessed by E. Stacy, W.E.W. Quarterman, S.A. Fraser, C.S.C.L.C. Recorded on October 7, 1863, by S.A. Fraser, Clerk.
