C.S. McKinne, Liberty County, used as collateral for a $635.30 note to Mrs. Harriet S. Handley on June 12, 1860: “the following named negro slaves to wit – Charlotte and Kate.”  Mrs. Handley endorsed the note over to Wm. [William] H. Burrough & Co. Witnessed by John B. Chisholm, Charlton H. Way, Not. Pub. C.C. Recorded on 25 September 1860 by Jesse Brewer, Clerk. [NOTE: Marked on deed was “Savannah August 19th 1862. The within mortgage has been satisfied by payment of account as by agreement therein contained. [Signed] Wm. H. Burroughs & Co. Entered this 23d August 1862 [Signed] S.A. Fraser, Clerk.]
