Enslaved Persons Named: Charles.

James S. Michael, of Liberty County, for the sum of $5 and the “love and affection which he the said James S. Michael has and bears to his wife Mary J. Michael” sold to John W. Coates, of Chatham County, on May 12, 1860, “a negro boy named Charles about 12 years of age four feet six inches high of dark complexion” “for the use, benefit and advantage in trust for said Mary J, Michael, the child she now has, and those she may hereafter have by her present husband, free from the control or disposition of her present husband.” Witnessed by William W.
