Bequests:

Gives to his wife Susan Quarterman, his house & lot on Ganey’s Hill, “my negro woman slave named Jenny, her daughter Hannah & her son Nero, carriage & horses now in my possession & large bureau. Also, the privilege of planting as much as her hands can attend of the lands which I may hereafter give to my sons, Richard & Stewart, as long as she remains my widow.”

Gives to daughter Susan Westbury, “my negro woman slave named ? Mazer ?, & her three children Lydia, Clarissa & George & my small bureau. Also, the privilege of planting as much as her hands can attend of the lands which I may hereafter give to my sons, Richard & Stewart, as long as she remains unmarried.”

Gives to son Stewart Lafayette, her plantation tract of land, containing three hundred acres, with all the improvements & appurtenances; “making a reserve in favor of my wife & daughter, as specified above.” Also gives him “one other tract of pine land, containing 134 acres, lately purchased from Richard F. Baker, bounded by landsd of John ?G? Baker & Est. [Estate] James Stacy, reserving as above. Also my negro boy Sambo, my patent lever watch & double barrel gun.”

Gives to son Richard Lawrence, “all that parcel of land lately bought from Richard F. Baker (excepting one hundred & thirty four acres, given above to Stewart Lafayette) containing about twelve hundred & fifty acres,” together with all privileges and appurtenances, making a reserve in favor of his wife & daughter. “Also my negro boy Bob and negro girl Diana, and old silver watch.”

Gives to son William Elliott Way, “all that tract of land which he now plants, containing about two hundred & four acres, called Cane Patch, my house-clock, and negro woman called Old Rose.”

Wishes her house & kitchen furniture to be equally divided between his wife and daughter.

All the rest of his property, both personal and real, after all debts have been paid, he wishes to be equally divided between his wife and children, “in such manner as that William Elliott Way’s part shall contain all or as many of the negroes now in his possession as shall be necessary to make his lot equal to the rest.”
