Will Summary (published 1964)
Martin Martin of Liberty County. Last Will and Testament dated March 7, 1812, probated January 4, 1813. Says he is greatly afflicted in body “by sickness but of sound disposing mind and memory.” Gives to wife and children Sarah, Jane, John, Elizabeth, Alexander, Nathaniel, William, Floranna, Margaret, Angus Martin. To his grandson, ? Mac ? Caswell, $150 when 21. Executors: John Martin, Sr., Alexander Martin. Witnesses: Sarah Fraser, Sam’l. [Samuel] Harville, J.P.
[NOTE: Item in quotes added from original will. Original will summary published in 1964 had grandson Caswell’s first name as Ma. There is a letter after the ‘a’ but hard to read.]

To his wife [not named]: “…likewise two Slaves, to wit, Sam and Peg.”
His wife was to retain the property given her for her natural life, and at her death what remains “and its increase except the above mentioned Peg, may be equally divided among my surviving children, according to their stations in this life so that they may be as near as possible on an equal standing and live comfortable with their industry through times, the above named and excepted Slave Peg, at the decease of my beloved wife, if she survives until then to be set free, if possible and that she live with my daughter Sarah, if she survives until then.”
To his daughter Jane: “a Negro boy [by] the name of Luis.”
To son John: “One Negro boy by the name of Harry.”
To daughter Elizabeth: “One Negro girl by the name of Tenor, and one feather bed and furniture thereto.”
To son Nathaniel: “One Negro boy by the name of Ben.”
To son William: “One Negro by the name of Peter.”
To daughter Floranna: “One Negro girl by the name of Mary, one feather bed and furniture thereto.”
To daughter Margaret: “One Negro girl [unnamed] bed and furniture.”
To son Angus: “One Negro boy by the name of Mally [or Wally].”
To daughter Sarah: “One Negro girl by the name of Rose…”
