Estate Settlement (Alexander)

Enslaved Persons Named: Redriffe, Harry, Rose, Lucinda, Julia, Cuffy, Phoebe, Adam, Rose, Becky, Eliza, Jim, Ben, James, Berrick, Sally, August, Sophy, Primus, Beck, Jenny, Galbo, Nancy, Dinah, Cupid, August (Old), Mentor, Fanny, Hester, Jemima, Jacob, Jack, Luke, Lena, Rinah, Rachel, Dick, Abram, Hezzy, Holly, Beck, Hector, Jack (Little), Harry (Little)

On December 13, 1824, William Ward, Bartholomew Busby and Joseph Jones inventoried and appraised the estate of Dr. Adam Alexander, deceased, and presented a report of the “negro slaves belonging to said estate being produced to us by Louisa F. Alexander, admx of said estate.” They distributed these individuals as follows: 

To Mrs. Louisa F. Alexander: “Redriffe; Harry (known as a driver) and Rose his wife; Lucinda and her children, to wit, Julia, Cuffy, Phoebe, Adam & Rose; Becky & her child Eliza; Jim, Ben & James; the two last sons of Fanny.”

To Miss Louisa Alexander: “Berrick, Sally his wife, & their children, August, Sophy & Primus; Beck & her following children, Jenny, Galbo, Nancy, Dinah & Cupid; Old August, Mentor & his wife Fanny, & their child Hester.” 

To Adam L. Alexander: “Jemima & her children Jacob, Jack, Luke, Lena, Rinah, Rachel, Dick & Abram; Hezzy, Holly, a daughter of Beck, Hector, Little Jack & Little Harry.” 

Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on December 20, 1824.
