Enslaved Persons Named: Dick
On February 4, 1823, “a certain negro, the property of the said Estate of Thos. [Thomas] Baker Jun[ior] named Dick” was taken from his home by Liberty County sheriff John Stewart, put up for sale at the county courthouse and sold to the highest bidder, Nathaniel Varnedoe, for $238. The seizure was based on a judgment obtained by William W. Baker, guardian of Mary C. Winn, and Uriah Wilcox in the Liberty County Superior and Inferior Courts against William H. Cassels, administrator of the estate of Thomas Baker, Jr. The sale was Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on May 8, 1824.
