Enslaved Persons Named: Billy

On March 1, 1824, Liberty County Sheriff Edward Way seized “a certain negro fellow, named Billy” and put him up for sale at the Liberty County Courthouse, after giving legal notice. Billy was sold to Nathaniel Varnedoe for $451 on Tuesday, February 3, as the highest bidder. Way executed the sale by virtue of a fifa [fieri fascias] write granted in the case of Uriah Wilcox vs. the executor of Samuel Jones Jun. Witnessed by Uriah Wilcox and Wm. [William Hughes]. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on March 4, 1824.
