On February 15, 1836, Joseph Austin, of Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $1500 to Edwin H. Bacon, “the following negro slaves Patty & her children Venus, Frank, James, Betsey & Nancy…” Witnessed by E. Baker, W.Q. Baker J.I.C. Recorded in Liberty County Superior Court on February 19, 1836. [NOTE: Marked as satisfied by E.H. Bacon. Satisfaction recorded on March 3, 1836. Also, on the next page, there was another promissory note from Joseph Austin that used land, including descriptions of the boundaries.]
