Enslaved Persons Named: Betty, Cudjoe

On April 23, 1832, Oliver Stevens used as collateral on a promissory note of $200 to the Commissioners of Sunbury Academy “a negro woman named Betty and her future issue, together with her child named, Cudjoe. The Commissioners were named as the Reverend William McWhir, Reverend Samuel S. Law, Joseph Jones and Reverend Josiah S. Law, all of Liberty County. Witnessed by E. Baker, C.S.C.L.C., and recorded by the same on April 26, 1832, in Liberty County Superior Court.
