On August 6, 1842, Wm. [William] B. Gaulden used as collateral on a promissory note to Thomas Chesser “a certain male slave named Paul.” Witnessed by D. Zoucks, J.P. Recorded on August 25, 1842, by Edward Way, Clerk, Sup. Court L.C. [NOTE: Written on this deed was “Rec’d full satisfaction of the within mortgage. January 19th 1844. Thos. Chesser. Recorded this 25th Feby 1844. E. Way Clerk.”]
