On August 26, 1841, John E. Mann, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $100 to Zachariah M. Winkler, also of Liberty County, “a certain Negro Girl Slave named Sarah about twelve years of age, the property of the said John E. Mann…” Witnessed by Mo. Sheftall Senr Not. Pub.
