Will Summary (published 1964)
Lewis McTair of Liberty County, tailor. Last Will and Testament dated November 6, 1819, probated January 3, 1820. He devises three slaves to his friend, Morgan Mara, planter, of said county, and a slave to “my young friend” James Carter Mara, and a slave to the daughter of his friend, John Stewart, and $400.00 to John Carter, the son of his friend Hepworth Carter. Executors: Morgan Mara, John Stewart of said county. Witnesses: Martha Carter, William Thomas Mell.
[Note: A Lewis McTeir is noted in the Savannah Death Register as having died on 28 November 1819. Occupation is hard to read but is listed. Said to be 35 years old and to have died of a lingering illness.]

To “my young friend, James Carter Mara, a negro woman named Phillis [alt: Phyllis], and her issue, to him forever.
