On February 20, 1839, Wm. [William] E. W. Quarterman, Liberty County, used as collateral on a promissory note of $1500 to R & W King of Savannah (the company of Ralph and William King) “the following slaves viz Russel [alt: Russell], March, Rose, Charlotte, Sarah & Peter…” Witnessed by S.L.W. Harris, Notary Public of Chatham County, in Savannah. Recorded on March 22, 1839, by E. Way, Clerk, S.C.L.C.
