On May 12, 1845, Roswell King, Liberty County, transferred to Joseph E. Maxwell and James N. Jones “for consideration hereinafter mentioned” “the following named Negroe slaves viz. Aggy aged 35 years Abram 16, John 14, Phillis, 10, Flora 8, Janet 5, Kitty 3, Isaac 1…” in trust for his wife Julia R. King “for and during her natural life, and from after her death, to and for the use of the said Roswell King for and during his natural life…” and to their children after that. Julia R. King would have the right to request their sale of the trustees. “The consideration is Leah aged 38 years, Abram 20, Jim [? J looks like an S] 17, Ann 14, Betsey 9, Jeffry [alt: Jeffrey] 5, and Peggy 10/12, being a portion of my wife’s property inherited by the will of her father Audley Maxwell of said County sold by me for bad conduct.” Document witnessed by A.C. Dunham, R.Q. Andrews, J.P. Recorded on May 19, 1845, by J.S. Bradwell, Clerk.
