Will Summary (published 1964)
James Graham of Liberty County. Last Will and Testament dated July 13, 1815, probated January 1, 1816. Devises to his mother Christian Robertson, one-half of his personal property for her lifetime, then to descend to the children of his two half-sisters, Rebecca Haines and Sarah Brown. The other half he devises to his sister, Christian Coleman, for her lifetime then to descend to her son, James Stewart, and to testator’s niece, Susannah Jane Goulding. He devises his plantation to his nephew the said James but if he dies before he is 21, the same is to be sold and proceeds paid to the legatees named above. He gives the plantation where James Graham Sr. now lives to the latter’s son, James Graham. Executors: Friends, Jesse Harn, William Fleming, Christian Coleman and John Stacy. Witnesses: John Smith, William Feaster and Elijah Baker.

“It is my will and desire, that my old house woman slave Rose should be at liberty to live where she may think proper; that she should not be treated as a slave; and that my executors pay her yearly, during her natural life, the sum of ten dollars as a maintenance in her old age.”
