On April 1, 1843, James D. Stevens used as collateral on a promissory note of $2500 to Joseph C. Wilkins, both of Liberty County, “the following negro slaves Jerry Jacob Sarah Penda Stepney and Dick and all that tract of parcel of land situate lying and being in the County and State aforesaid known by the name of ?Luskine? containing two thousand acres bounded on the north by lands of John Coleman and the estate of William Norman on the South by lands of Robert Quarterman on the east by lands of Robert Quarterman and the public road leading from Savannah to Darien and west by lands of the estate of John Way…” Witnessed by G.W. Dunham, T.W. Quarterman, J.P. Recorded on May 20, 1843, by E. Way, Clerk.
