Bill of Sale (Butler to Cassels)

Jesse Butler, Liberty County, sold for $175 to Thomas Q. Cassels, Liberty County, “the following property to wit one fifth of two negroes, Tena a negro woman thirty years old and Ceasar a boy five years old…” Witnessed by E. Daniel, J.I.C.L.C. on July 22, 1841. 

[Second Document] “Georgia, Liberty County } I Thomas Q. Cassels being desirous to make provisions for my sister Margaret R. Butler (now the wife of Jesse Butler) against future contingencies and for her maintenance and support during the time of natural life do hereby grant and convey all my right title & interest of the within bill of sale to the said Margaret R. Butler the said property to be free from the control, liabilities or interference of her Husband in any manner whatever. The said Margaret R. Butler to have the right and priviledge of willing the said property as she may deem best and proper at death.” Witnessed on February 24, 1862 by L.E. McCall, S.A. Fraser, C.I.C.L.C.
